This is my video I made for the One Day On Earth event, 10/10/10, on the Lower East Side, the part I live in so its really a day in my corner of Earth. I look forward to seeing all the videos as they come in since it was posted people were filming in every country on our planet yesterday. If they didn't have cameras they were sent to them and will be collected over the next 30 days. I know the lives of people are so different and I hope to see the good the bad, happy and sad- the real lives we live here on our blue marble. It will increase our understanding of our fellow humans, be aware of the happy stories and the stories that need help to find happiness. All of us live here, we need to know what the lives of others are like, this planet we share isn't really that big.

Things Look Like Games! A Life-sized Candyland

Yesterday an entire street turned into a real life Candyland! Lombard Street (you know that famous twisty turny one in San Francisco) got turned into a life sized version of the famous kid's boardgame.

To celebrate Candy Land's 60th anniversary, 575 feet of switchbacks in the Russian Hill neighborhood were transformed into a life-size version of the board game.

Kids from the UC San Francisco Children's Hospital and Friends of the Children competed in a round of Candy Land, which makes my girlhood fantasyland, FAO Schwarz, look like child's play.

PS! Yes I am still here but ugh summer heat is making me melt in NYC :) What free-time I did have is being hogged up by my art project. I am making great progress, it's been getting it's time here and there btw "life" and all it's goodies but when it's done it will be worth it and yes I will share all. I do update Happy LOL Day on a semi regular basis. I am not gone I just need to get this stuff finished. I will also be getting ready to do FaerieCon again so it will be busy. So I hope you are having a nice summer (or winter if you are on the other end of our little floating rock in space :) ) and hopefully getting in some vacation time. I will be back! :)

Film Looks Like Fact, Pixar's Up and Edith Macefield

The new animated Pixar film "Up" (opening Friday) starts as an echo of a real lady's life in Ballard Washington. Edith Macefield held her ground while her neighborhood was torn down and giant buildings went up around her. She even refused one million dollars to move and opted to live the rest of her life in her own home. The gentrifying construction was forced to leave her patch of old school neighborhood paradise intact.



Disney and Pixar honored her spirit and acknowledged her story's tie to the film.


The realities of high wind, concrete walls and balloon poppage kept the real life version from looking as dramatic as the film, but it was a nice thought. "Up" sounds like a fun new adventure, Edith would probably approve.

This story also reminds me of another character that refused to budge in the face of "progress"...

Kiwi Looks Like Kiwi

The Kiwi is the National Bird of New Zealand, even the people who live there are affectionately called "Kiwis".
One man's love of the bird extends even to fruit. Yes there is a Kiwi fruit that sort of looks like a Kiwi:

But this fruit found in Shavon Green's backyard in Auckland really nailed the look. Christchurch businessman Mike Pero paid $1000 for it at auction, conditional on a $500 donation to The Child Cancer Foundation. Everyone was happy. He got his Kiwi, she got much more than the going rate for the fruit, and a worthy charity got a nice donation.

All for the love of a Kiwi!
